Saving Turtles

To keep the eggs laid by Olive Ridley turtle that visits the shore from January to March safe from strays, forest department officials have enclosed an area in Besant Nagar beach.

Similar enclosures have been made in Kovalam and Pulicat. While 50,000 turtle eggs were laid last year, it is expected that 70,000 eggs will be laid this year.
