A chola temple in an ancient seaport
Chola and Vijayanagara-era inscriptions record donations in the form of salt pans to the Bhumishwarar temple due to its proximity to the ocean

Ancient harbour- Marakkanam was once a famous seaport called Eyirppattinam.
Vimanam- The superstructure above the main shrine has nice carvings.
Inscriptions- Chola and Vijayanagara epigraphs are etched here.
