Patalpuri and Bateshwar cave

Patalpuri cave, Bhagalpur is 13kms northeast of Kahalgaon and faces Ganges River where it moves towards the east. On the north side of the Hill are rock sculptures that date pre 7th/8th century AD. These sculptures are known as Chaurasi Munis  (84 sages) and are said to display the adventure of Lord Krishna and Rama. The hill has five caves, including the Bateshwar cave. There is also a temple dedicated to Lord Mahadeva on the hill, which is new. During Shivratri a fair is held on this hill.
